Now that warm air has finally come back to Rhode Island, we are excited to be serving all our favorites outdoors beneath a beautiful, glowing sun. Did you know that all our restaurants offer al fresco options? There’s something about dining in the fresh air that makes everything taste a little bit better. Come out and join us!

If dining near the water is your style, we have no shortage of options. Let’s start at perhaps the greatest outdoor spot in all of Newport: The Lawn at Castle Hill Inn. Here you can relax in a comfortable Adirondack chair nestled on the famed rolling lawn. Savor the breathtaking views of passing sailboats as a gentle ocean breeze surrounds you while sipping festive cocktails and feasting on our Chef’s delicious creations. Should you prefer dining at a table, the restaurant offers al fresco seating where you can lunch on regional cuisine and fresh seafood while soaking in the same glorious views. Visit us on Sunday for Brunch and live jazz to complete your Newport trip in the best way possible.

In the heart of downtown Newport, for over thirty years The Mooring has been the spot for locals and visitors to dine on the water and watch the boats coming in and out of the harbor. A table on the mahogany-planked patio floating over the water makes for an unmatched maritime al fresco dining experience. Just across the wharf you’ll find Portside at 22 Bowen’s.  While there are still plenty of tables for al fresco enjoyment at 22 Bowen’s, Portside is right in the middle of all the action on the pier. The open-air bar alongside the umbrellaed tables is the perfect spot for soaking up the sun and the liveliness of Newport’s harbor.

If you’re in Providence, then visit Waterman Grille on the banks of the Seekonk River. The restaurant is situated in the former bridge gatehouse that dates back to 1871, so it’s in a unique position to take advantage of the scenic view. Whether you are enjoying brunch on a lazy weekend or an evening dinner, you can sit back and watch the rowers gliding across the glistening river while indulging in the craft cocktails and inspired creations that guests have come to love.

Looking for a spectacular sunset? The view at the Boat House in Tiverton is as good as it gets. Nestled peacefully on the Sakonnet River, Boat House guests can relax on one of two outdoor terraces. Diners settle in each night for the big show when the sun splashes down into the horizon with a breath-taking array of glorious hues that wash across the sky. It’s an Instagramer’s dream! Small rounds of applause have been known to spontaneously ring out as if asking Mother Nature to take a bow.  Best of all, the show comes with the finest and freshest food and drinks to truly bring together this symphony for the senses.  Named as one of OpenTable’s 100 Most Scenic Restaurants in America, the team at Boat House is ready to share this one-of-a-kind spectacle with you, so reserve your table today.

If people-watching is more your thing, we have great spots for that too. If you find yourself walking down South Main Street in Providence, you might want to join the crowd on the outside patio at Hemenway’s. Serving the city’s finest seafood with a raw bar in a class by itself, the tables along the outside patio beneath the shade of umbrellas is the spot to see and be seen. Check out the bustling activity of the classic neighborhood or soaking in the serene rustling of the trees in neighboring Memorial Park all while enjoying a glass of wine and some fresh oysters. It’s a side of Providence we wait all year to see.

If you’re down at the beach in Narragansett, look for some prime al fresco dining at Trio. Enjoy the ocean air and watch the beach-goer traffic at this cozy spot on the corner of chill and relaxed. With the surf just visible in the distance, perfect for the twilight magic of Narragansett, you’ll find your happiness served with some of the area’s most inspired regional and local flavors.

The best of people-watching in Newport can be found on America’s Cup Avenue and it comes with the mouthwatering aroma of smoked meats in the air. We’re talking about the Smoke House. If you want to get a true sense of what happens in Newport, sit back and grab a signature mason jar cocktail for a ringside seat.  You’ll feel the salty air breezing through and hear the sounds of laughter ringing out from your fellow devotees of fun and good food.

If you are enjoying a day of shopping at Garden City in Cranston, make sure you schedule some time at Avvio for some relaxing fare served al fresco. Patio tables let you enjoy the people-watching under the shelter of umbrellas while enjoying the famous Avvio Neapolitan pizzas, fresh salads and wood-fire grilled entrees.  If you want some shade, try dining in our newly renovated covered terrace which provides a cooler atmosphere but still delivers that al fresco sensation. Shopping can tire out the best of us, so make sure you swing by to recharge.

No matter where you are in Rhode Island, a true joy about our state is being able to enjoy your dining under the sun. It just pairs well with all the famous Rhode Island flavors. We hope we see you under the sun at one of our restaurants this summer.  Don’t forget your sunglasses!
