2Newport Storm Beer Dinner at the Smokehouse

To many the summer season doesn’t truly begin until they enjoy their first hog pen at the Smokehouse. Well it must mean summer is just around the corner since The Smokehouse kicked off their opening night with a Newport Storm Beer Dinner on Friday May 1st. The pork was plentiful, as was the beer, and despite the inclement weather the night was a true success. The marriage of BBQ meats straight from the smoker and Newport Storm brews is true the essence of summer – let the season begin!

The night began with Pork Belly Sliders: slow smoked pork on buttermilk biscuits; Hen House Sliders: slow smoked chicken with Smokehouse BBQ sauce; and the Smokehouse’s Hall of Fame Smoked Corn & Crab Chowder, all served with the Hurricane Amber Ale, Newport Storm’s flagship beer featuring North American crystal malt for color and sweetness, Munich malt for body and mouthfeel, and spicy Tettenang hops for flavor and aroma.

Dinner will started with Jeffery’s Greens: local greens tossed with toasted pecans, sharp cheddar, and white balsamic-blueberry dressing and served with the Rhode Island Blueberry, a hybrid Kolsh style with juice from real, hand pressed Rhode Island blueberries, pale malt, and malted wheat, followed by a dish of Bangers and Cabbage: smoked, braised lamb sausage, Napa cabbage, rosemary, garlic, and demi-glace, paired with the Irish Style Red Spring Ale. Deep ruby red in color, this well-balanced ale has roasted malt tones and a crisp hop character in the Irish tradition.

The evening’s entrée featured Slow Smoked Hereford Prime Rib with grana padano ‘duchesse’ potatoes and an old fashioned pop-over, complemented by the Cyclone Series James, brewed to be a strong Scotch ale with flavors of caramel, smoke, raisins, and brown sugar and the traditional smoked character.

The night was topped off with a Cookie Sandwich filled with chocolate chip-peanut butter mousse and chocolate fudge and paired with the Newport Storm ‘08 Annual Limited Release, a sweet and spicy  dark amber ale with characteristics of raisin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and blackstrap molasses as well as a variety of hops.
